When you look at the individual vehicle sales numbers it becomes clear exactly which models sell well and which don’t. Overall, there were fewer sales in 2019 than there were in 2018. However, some models did manage to sell very well. It’s clear that SUV and truck sales were stronger than passenger cars.

Leading the pack was the Ford F-Series pickup. With that said, the model sold fewer than last years for both the month of December and 2019 as a whole. It was followed by the Ram Pickup which had a fantastic year this year. It saw strong sales increases for the month of December and 2019 as a whole. The Toyota RAV4 was in third place and saw a significant rise in sales for the whole year, though it was down for the month of December.

We expect more of the same in the first few months of 2020. The year as a whole may look differently, but for the first few months of 2020, sales should be down overall. We also expect that trucks and SUVs will dominate the sales that do happen. Fewer and fewer folks are buying cars and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

Below you will find sales figures for all vehicles sold in Canada broken down by month and by quarter. This list includes all cars, SUVs, pickups, minivans and commercial vans.

Data will trickle in throughout the day with the numbers being finalized by EOD. GCBC is also happy to announce that we will be adding quarterly sales reports and comparisons in addition to monthly sales comparisons beginning this quarter. We will also be adding monthly sales tables and charts to the mix as well.

Note: FCA US LLC will end its practice of reporting U.S. and Canada sales on a monthly basis following June results. FCA US and FCA Canada will report monthly sales for May and June. The first quarterly report will occur on October 1, 2019, covering the months of July, August, and September.

This data table looks at quarterly sales performance for the every model sold in Canada. It includes all major models sold in the Canadian market. We compare last quarter’s passenger car Canada sales at the model level with the same model’s sales quarter last year. We also include a growth rate too so you can see which models are growing and which ones are declining. The quarterly view of sales at the model level often gives you a better picture of what is happening than monthly because it takes out some of the month to month noise.

This sales data table looks at monthly sales performance for every model sold in the Canadian on a month to month basis for the entire year so far. It includes all major models sold in the Canadian market and you can see that the monthly sales trends clearly. Seeing the individual model sales performance in this way gives you a good sense of the momentum (good or bad).
