Honda Civic Sales in the United States

The Civic has been one of America’s most consistent compact-car sellers, peaking near 377,000 units in 2017. Volume fell sharply to 133,932 in 2022 as the semiconductor shortage and the launch of the eleventh generation constrained supply, then rebounded strongly: 200,381 in 2023 and 242,005 in 2024. Sales held near that level at 238,661 in 2025, and through June 2026 Honda had sold 132,440 Civics in the United States, tracking close to the prior year.

Honda Civic Sales in Canada

The Civic has long been one of Canada’s best-selling passenger cars, regularly topping 60,000 units a year in the 2000s and 2010s. As the sedan segment contracted, annual volume moved lower, dipping to 27,803 in 2023 before recovering to 31,774 in 2024. In 2025 Canadian sales were 31,054, essentially flat year over year and still among the strongest of any car in the country.

Honda Civic Generations

First generation (1972-1979)

The first generation Civic was introduced in Japan in 1972 and in the United States in 1973. It was a small, fuel-efficient car that was well-received by consumers. Introduced as a subcompact car, it was Honda’s answer to the oil crisis of the 1970s. Initially available as a two-door model, with a three-door hatchback added later. Second generation (1979-1983)
