The Bestselling Cars, Trucks, Minivans and SUVs in Europe

Each year we collect and analyze thousands of models across the entire European auto-market. At the end of the year, these are the models left standing, the best-selling vehicles in Europe. See our list of the most popular cars in Europe each and every year.

Europe's Best Selling Vehicles

In Europe, the best-selling vehicles have also changed significantly in the last decade. In 2013, the top five best-selling vehicles were all passenger cars: the Volkswagen Golf, the Renault Clio, the Ford Fiesta, the Peugeot 208, and the Opel Corsa. By 2022, the top five best-selling vehicles were all SUVs or crossover SUVs: the Peugeot 208, the Dacia Sandero, the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Opel Corsa, and the Fiat/Abarth 500. This shift in sales is similar to what has been seen in the United States and Canada, and it is due to the same factors: rising fuel prices, the aging European population, and the growing popularity of SUVs and outdoor activities. Another notable change in the best-selling vehicles in Europe in the last decade is the rise of electric vehicles. In 2013, electric vehi cles accounted for less than 1% of new car sales in Europe. By 2022, electric vehicles accounted for over 10% of new car sales in Europe, and this number is expected to continue to grow in the coming years. The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe, and it is also one of the best-selling vehicles overall. Other popular electric vehicles in Europe include the Volkswagen ID.3, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Kia EV6. The Volkswagen Golf, which was once the best-selling vehicle in Europe, has seen its sales decline in recent years. This is due in part to the rise of SUVs, but also to the increasing popularity of electric vehicles. Chinese brands, such as MG and BYD, are starting to make inroads into the European market.
