BMW 5-Series Sales in the United States

The 5-Series was a 50,000-plus seller in the United States through most of the 2000s and early 2010s, peaking at 60,840 units in 2012. The long decline that followed reflects the wider move away from midsize luxury sedans: volume fell to 32,408 in 2016, recovered briefly with the seventh generation to 43,937 in 2018, then dropped through the pandemic years to a low of 20,857 in 2022. The eighth-generation car has turned that around. Sales have risen three years running, from 22,400 in 2023 to 25,317 in 2024 and 26,861 in 2025, the best result since 2019. Through June 2026 BMW had delivered 12,473 units against 13,431 a year earlier, about 7 percent behind, although May and June both cleared 2,200 units. One quirk worth noting in the monthly table: July, August and September 2024 each read under 1,000 units against a trend closer to 2,400 on either side.

BMW 5-Series Sales in Canada

Canada is a much smaller market for the 5-Series and the series is correspondingly choppier. Sales ran between 2,000 and 3,000 units a year from 2004 through 2013, peaking at 2,963 in 2011, then declined through the 2010s and collapsed to 448 in 2023, the low point of the chart. The eighth-generation car has driven a strong recovery: Canada recorded 471 units in 2024 and 1,109 in 2025, more than double the prior year and the best result since 2019. The first half of 2026 is holding that level, at 483 units against 475 over the same months of 2025.
