2019 U.S Midsize SUV Sales Analysis
Report Updated: With all 2019 Sales Data on January 3rd, 2020
Top Level US Reports: By Manufacturer / By Brand / By Model / Best Sellers
When we say that SUV sales are strong, we’re usually talking about the midsize SUV segment. The segment happened to see sales decline in December, but for the entire year, sales were up considerably.
The segment was down by about 6,700 units when you look at just the month of December. When you look at the year as a whole, though, you’ll notice that the segment was up by about 148,000 units.
Leading the pack in terms of sales volume for the year was the Jeep Grand Cherokee, though it was beaten by the Highlander when you look at just the month of December. The Grand Cherokee sales were down for December and up for 2019 as a whole. The Highlander’s sales dropped for both the month of December and 2019 as a whole. When you look at the third-place spot, you’ll see the Jeep Wrangler. It saw sales decline for both the month of December and 2019 as a whole.
We would expect the midsize SUV segment in the U.S. to continue to be up overall, though there may be some shifting as to which model claims the top spot. Jeep’s vehicles are pretty high up there but the top five or so models are all pretty close in terms of volume. It will be interesting to see what happens. Also, there are some new entrants coming in 2020 that should spice up the segment even more. 2020 should be a good year for midsize SUVs.
Data will trickle in throughout the day with the numbers being finalized by EOD. GCBC is also happy to announce that we will be adding quarterly sales reports and comparisons in addition to monthly sales comparisons beginning this quarter. We will also be adding monthly sales tables and charts to the mix as well.
Note: FCA US LLC will end its practice of reporting U.S. and Canada sales on a monthly basis following June results. FCA US and FCA Canada will report monthly sales for May and June. The first quarterly report will occur on October 1, 2019, covering the months of July, August, and September.
