Small luxury car sales in the U.S. looked strong in the month of November. This is contrary to what you’d expect when looking at the YTD numbers. Some of this may be due to the fact that luxury automakers are offering good incentives to buyers during this time of the year.
The segment was actually up by about 3,400 sales in the month of November. When you look YTD, you’ll see that the segment is down by about 38,000 sales. That makes the November sales bump even more noticeable.
Much of the sales bump for the month came from one vehicle, the BMW 3-Series. That model saw a sales jump of more than 95 percent in the month of November. Other models also saw uncharacteristic jumps.
It will be interesting to see how December compares to November’s sales. Luxury automakers will be pushing holiday sales campaigns to move models, and we could see more strong sales in December.
Data will trickle in throughout the day with the numbers being finalized by EOD. GCBC is also happy to announce that we will be adding quarterly sales reports and comparisons in addition to monthly sales comparisons beginning this quarter. We will also be adding monthly sales tables and charts to the mix as well.
Note: FCA US LLC will end its practice of reporting U.S. and Canada sales on a monthly basis following June results. FCA US and FCA Canada will report monthly sales for May and June. The first quarterly report will occur on October 1, 2019, covering the months of July, August, and September.
