General Motors and Stellantis split their full-size pickups by weight class, and in the third quarter of 2026 the weight class, not the badge, decided which trucks grew. The light-duty Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and Ram each sold more than in the third quarter of 2025, and the heavy-duty versions of all three sold less. Chevrolet and GMC are both GM brands; Ram belongs to Stellantis.
Ram’s heavy-duty pickups turned during 2026. Stellantis’s tables had them 21.4% ahead of 2025 in the first quarter and almost exactly level in the second; in the third they fell behind, as both of GM’s heavy-duty trucks did. Whatever growth the three nameplates show now comes from their light-duty versions.

LD and HD are the lines each maker’s table prints: GM’s Silverado LD, Silverado HD, Sierra LD and Sierra HD, and Stellantis’s Ram LD PU and Ram HD PU. GM’s lines leave out the medium-duty Silverado and the electric Silverado and Sierra, which its table prints separately.
Ram’s light-duty truck carried the quarter
Stellantis’s third-quarter sales release gives the 1500 the same total gain its table shows for the light-duty line, and a 42% rise in retail sales, so the 1500’s sales outside retail, the rental, government and commercial channels Stellantis counts as fleet, grew faster than the truck as a whole. The release credits the dealer network with driving retail and gives no other reason for the jump.
The light-duty Ram’s 2025 base was soft: the third quarter was the line’s smallest of that year. Its 2026 climb does not rest on that, though. Stellantis’s quarterly sales tables put the line about 27% ahead of the year before in each of the first two quarters. It sold 59,828 in the first and 65,669 in the second, and more again in the third.
GM’s heavy-duty trucks are down for the year
General Motors’ deliveries table shows the same split with smaller swings, on 77 selling days in both quarters. The light-duty Silverado’s third-quarter gain was twice its nine-month rate, so the quarter pulled its year up; the light-duty Sierra grew more slowly in the quarter than over the nine months. Both heavy-duty trucks fell less steeply in the quarter than over the nine months: a smaller fall, not a turn.
GM’s third-quarter release does not discuss the light-duty and heavy-duty trucks separately. It says the launch of its next-generation full-size pickups is on track and that the 2027 Silverado and Sierra are scheduled to begin arriving in dealerships in the fourth quarter.
The nameplate totals hide the split
Counted whole, the Silverado moved above 2025 in the third quarter after two quarters below it, while the Sierra fell back below 2025 after a second quarter above it, which leaves both within a few points of 2025 for the nine months. The totals also carry the medium-duty Silverado and the electric versions of both trucks, all of which sold less than a year earlier and absorbed part of the light-duty gain. The Ram pickup line, light-duty and heavy-duty together, has been ahead of 2025 in every quarter.

What January will show
GM’s fourth-quarter table, due in early January, will cover the quarter the new trucks are scheduled to arrive, and Stellantis says the 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee will arrive in the same quarter. A light-duty line falling below the fourth quarter of 2025 would break the pattern; a heavy-duty line back above it would be the bigger surprise.
