Toyota sold 34,192 RAV4s in the United States in September 2026, 6.6% below the 36,599 of September 2025. Through September the nameplate stands at 253,664, 29.2% below the same nine months of 2025.
| Period | 2026 | 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| September | 34,192 | 36,599 | -6.6% |
| Third quarter | 99,709 | 118,683 | -16.0% |
| January to September | 253,664 | 358,134 | -29.2% |
104,470 fewer RAV4s have been sold this year than last, and Toyota’s explanation is the car itself: its first-quarter release said the company was “navigating production constraints and limited inventory during the ramp-up of our traditional volume leader, the new RAV4.”
December 2025 is when Toyota said the first of those cars would reach dealers. Toyota’s October 2025 release said the 2026 RAV4 would “move to a 100% electrified lineup, with a choice of RAV4 Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid models,” priced from $31,900 before the dealer processing fee, with the hybrids arriving in December and the plug-in hybrids in the spring. A nameplate that sold 479,288 in 2025, its best year, therefore spent the first half of 2026 changing what it was.
48.1% was the gap in the first quarter, 24.2% in the second and 16.0% in the third. February was the floor at 16,098 units and 57.2% below its year-earlier month; September’s 6.6% is the narrowest monthly gap of the year, and 34,192 is within 40 units of August.
28,642 RAV4 Hybrids and 5,544 plug-in hybrids are what Toyota’s September sales release records for the month, which is all but six of the 34,192. The gas-only RAV4 left the line-up with the 2026 model year, and the two electrified versions now carry the nameplate.

6,382 RAV4s sold in Canada in September, against 5,740 a year earlier, while the nine months there stand at 46,444 against 59,037, a fall of 21.3%. The Canadian year opened at 1,996 in January and 1,023 in February, before the new car arrived in volume, so Canada ran the same shape as the United States and is further along it.
More than 6.47 million RAV4s have been sold in the United States since the start of 2005, and 19.9% of the Toyota brand‘s 171,469 September sales were RAV4s, against 23.0% a year earlier.
October 2025, at 39,663, was the last month in which the RAV4 grew. Toyota says it goes into the fourth quarter with disciplined inventory; the October figures are due in early November, and the small SUV rankings carry the nameplate against the rest of its segment month by month.
