2026 U.S. Subcompact Car Sales Figures – By Model
This page ranks 2026 United States sales for the subcompact car class, the smallest conventional passenger cars still sold in the country. It is a narrow field and a shrinking one, and it sits inside the wider small car grouping GCBC tracks separately. Each nameplate with its own GCBC sales history page links to it from the rankings table, and the tables and charts update automatically as each new month of data is reported.
Through September 2026, the Nissan Versa leads the rankings table at 15,356 sales, down 62.7 percent year over year, ahead of the Mini Cooper at 11,578, down 4.0 percent, and the Fiat 500 at 201. Between them the three have sold 27,135 units in 2026, half as many as a year ago.
Sales Rankings Table
The table below ranks all three subcompact cars by U.S. sales, with monthly and year-to-date totals and year-over-year changes. In September 2026 the Mini led with 1,283 sales, well ahead of the Versa at 169, so the table’s September column does not follow its year-to-date order. The cars shown sold 1,470 between them in September.
