October 5, 2026

TLDR: Toyota sold 9,705 Prius in the United States in the third quarter of 2026, 25.0% fewer than a year earlier, and 29,223 from January to September, down 37.5%. Sales have run between 9,705 and 9,781 a quarter since October 2025, so most of the year’s decline is against a strong first half of 2025. Inside the line, Toyota’s figures show the plug-in hybrid level with 2025 and the hybrid down by half.

Toyota sold 9,705 Prius in the United States in the third quarter of 2026, 25.0% below the 12,932 of the third quarter of 2025, including 3,169 in September, down 16.9% from 3,813. Through September the year stands at 29,223, 37.5% below the 46,777 of the same nine months of 2025.

9,711, 9,737, 9,781 and 9,705 are the Prius’s last four quarters, October 2025 through September 2026, a spread of 76 units. The steep year-over-year percentages come from the other side of the comparison: the first two quarters of 2025 delivered 16,653 and 17,192, and 14,327 of the 17,554 units the year has lost against 2025 were lost in the first half.

The plug-in is now 42.7% of the line, up from 27.4% across 2025 by Toyota’s year-end release. September ran the other way: the plug-in fell 25.3% to 1,272 while the hybrid’s decline narrowed to 10.1%, at 1,897.

13 of the 14 months from August 2025 to September 2026 came in below the year-earlier month, June 2026 (4,029, up 9.4%) the only exception, and the third quarter’s 9,705 is the second-lowest third quarter since the series began in 2005, above only 2022’s 6,794. The Prius accounted for 1.8% of the 1,613,844 vehicles the Toyota brand sold in the first nine months of the year.

2012 remains the best year in the series at 236,655, when Toyota’s Prius line also carried the Prius c and Prius v, and 2025’s 56,488 was the line’s best since 2021 (59,010). At 29,223 through September, 2026 has already passed half of 2025’s total with a quarter to go.
