China’s export champion claims solid-state technology enabling 808-mile EVs by 2027, two years ahead of Toyota and CATL’s public targets
TLDR: Chery unveiled a 600 Wh/kg solid-state battery prototype at its October 18 Global Innovation Conference in Wuhu, claiming 1,300 km (808 miles) real-world range when commercialized in 2027. The lithium-rich manganese cathode system survived nail penetration and drill damage without thermal runaway, positioning Chery ahead of BYD and CATL in the race to commercialize next-generation battery chemistry. If industrialized successfully, this doubles current EV ranges and shifts the solid-state timeline from Toyota’s 2028-2030 projections to immediate commercial competition.
