Dodge Durango Sales in the United States

Dodge Durango sales in the United States have reached their highest level in two decades. The original body-on-frame Durango sold 115,439 units in 2005 before demand fell away and the nameplate went on hiatus, bottoming at 572 in 2010. Dodge relaunched the Durango as a unibody, Grand Cherokee-based crossover for 2011, and it settled into a steady band between roughly 55,000 and 69,000 units for most of the following decade. Sales then jumped to 80,521 in 2025, the strongest year since 2005 and well above 2024’s 59,358. The Durango has carried that momentum into 2026: through June, Dodge had delivered 38,575, ahead of the 34,399 recorded in the same period a year earlier.

Dodge Durango Generations

First Generation (1998-2003)

The first generation Durango was based on the Chrysler LH platform, which was also used for the Chrysler 300M and the Chrysler Concorde. It was available with a variety of engines, including a 3.5-liter V6 engine, a 4.7-liter V8 engine, and a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. It was available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Durango was designed as a more significant, more potent alternative to the mid-size SUVs of the time. It had three-row seating with a design that emphasized its rugged, truck-based roots.

Second Generation (2004-2009)

The second generation Durango was based on the Chrysler LX platform, which is also used for the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. It was available with a variety of engines, including a 3.5-liter V6 engine, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, and a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 engine. It was available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It was a complete redesign, with a more rounded appearance but still retaining a muscular stance (it continued with a body-on-frame construction). There was an upgraded interior with more attention to comfort and available features as well we improved safety equipment and options.

Third Generation (2011-2021)

After a short hiatus, the Durango was reintroduced in 2011 with significant changes. The third generation Durango was based on the same platform as the second generation, but it received a number of updates, including a new exterior design, a new interior, and a new suspension. It was available with a variety of engines, including a 3.6-liter V6 engine, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, and a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine. It was available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It switched to a unibody construction, shared with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, enhancing ride comfort and handling. It had more refined styling, blending muscle car influences with modern SUV design cues. The spacious interior with three-row seating and modern infotainment options were also part of the new package. Most exciting was the introduction of high-performance variants like the SRT, featuring a 6.4-liter V8. It was generally praised for its combination of performance, comfort, and utility, though some critics have noted its higher weight and fuel consumption compared to some rivals.

Fourth Generation (2022-Present)

The fourth generation Durango is based on a new platform that is also used for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Chrysler Pacifica. It is available with a variety of engines, including a 3.6-liter V6 engine, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, and a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine. It is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Day 204 — 14 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday and Sunday, down from 36 the previous weekend: 11 exited, three entered, seven departures took the Iranian route and some crossed with transponders off (preliminary Kpler data, via The National, Sep 21). Saudi crude exports recovered to more than 4M bpd so far in September from 2.4M bpd in August, the lowest since at least 2013, after Aramco concentrated loadings at Ras Tanura and Juaymah and moved barrels through the strait it had been bypassing (Kpler provisional data, via Reuters); JPMorgan put Saudi volumes through Hormuz at 2.9M b/d over six days against 700,000 b/d in August. Houthi forces said they struck sites in Riyadh and an Aramco facility at Yanbu with missiles and drones on Saturday; the Saudi-led coalition said the attack was intercepted with no casualties or damage. Crude fell more than 2% to a two-week low. AAA's national diesel average set an eighteenth consecutive record at $6.5107, while California diesel eased for the first day in the run. On the water, straits.live counts 493 vessels holding position away from berth, up 150 on the figure seven days earlier.
Day 204: weekend transits through the strait halved to 14 from 36 on preliminary Kpler data, while Saudi exports recovered above 4M bpd by rerouting through Hormuz itself.
