DesRosiers estimated 168,000 new light vehicles sold in Canada in September, up 3.4% and a fourth straight monthly gain, The Canadian Press reported; the market’s year to date is still 0.7% below 2025. Mazda’s 18.9% drop set it 22 points behind that estimate.
2,498 CX-5s were sold in September, 28.9% fewer than a year earlier and the largest single drop in Mazda Canada’s September release, followed by the Mazda3 (1,041, down 26.5%) and the CX-50, which recorded no sales against 296. Mazda stopped building CX-50s for Canada at its Alabama plant in April 2025 after Canada’s counter-tariffs on US-built vehicles, Automotive News reported, and the CX-50 accounts for 7,471 of the 7,869 units Mazda’s year to date has lost: 168 sold through September against 7,639. The release gives no reason for the CX-5 and Mazda3 declines, and the CX-70 set a September record at 510.
Lexus sold 3,341 vehicles in Canada and beat the previous best September, 2,654 in 2021, per the Lexus Canada sales figures, while Honda rose 11.8% to 12,172 and Kia 5.6% to 8,529.
Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Nissan and the Volkswagen Group report Canadian sales by quarter, so they are not in this table and no market share is stated. October figures from the monthly reporters land in the first business days of November.
