Few vehicles, if any, match the Mercedes-Benz S-Class’s ability to define a vehicular category.
Dodge Grand Caravan? It’s not even the best-selling minivan in America right now.
Ford F-Series? GM is currently selling far more pickup trucks in America than Ford.
Porsche 911? Perhaps, although America’s favourite high-end sports car is probably more quickly labelled as the Chevrolet Corvette.
The S-Class, however, conquers all rivals in terms of sales volume. All competitors benchmark the S-Class for design, dynamics, and interior style. It’s available from a high price point to an absurdly high price point to an outrageously high price point, covering all sorts of niche markets beyond its typical sphere.
So, how good is it? The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic is the subject of this week’s Alex On Autos video review.
