Our Take On The Minivan Sales Numbers

Canadian sales of minivans fell 2% year-on-year from calendar year 2016 to 2017.

The segment leading Dodge Grand Caravan outpaced the market’s shrinkage over the same period; sales of Grand Caravans fell almost 9% on 2016’s totals, with the Chrysler Pacifica absorbing the interest of consumers looking to buy for themselves.

December was the Pacifica’s best month of sales ever in Canada, and the recently-added model may well take a bigger bite out of the ageing Grand Caravan’s sales through 2018.

Grand Caravan sales still make up a dominant proportion of minivan sales in Canada. Its nearest competitor, the Toyota Sienna, sold around a third as many units as the market leader, but increased its sales on 2016 by 15.4%.
