Land Rover Freelander Sales Figures

Land Rover Freelander

The Land Rover Freelander was a compact SUV produced by the British manufacturer Land Rover. It was introduced in 1997 and was produced until 2014, after which it was effectively replaced by the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The Freelander was aimed at a segment of the market that wanted off-road capability in a smaller, more urban-friendly package than the larger Land Rover models.

Land Rover Freelander Overview

While the Freelander was designed to be more road-friendly than other Land Rover models, it still retained a commendable off-road capability, especially when compared to other vehicles in its class. Features like the Terrain Response system, introduced in the Freelander 2, made it versatile across various terrains.

Over its production life, the Freelander earned praise for its blend of off-road capability and on-road manners. It was seen as a bridge between more mainstream SUVs and the ruggedness of traditional Land Rovers. Some criticisms over the years pertained to reliability concerns and some interior quality issues, particularly with the first generation.

The Freelander was phased out in 2014 and was effectively replaced by the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which continues the ethos of the Freelander but aligns more closely with the new Discovery family branding and design philosophy.
