Hyundai and Genesis Recall 294,000 Vehicles for Seat Belt Anchors That May Detach

Hyundai Motor Group is recalling 294,128 vehicles across the 2023-2025 Ioniq 6, the 2024-2026 Santa Fe, and the 2023-2026 Genesis G90. A snap-on seat belt anchor in the front rows was improperly attached during assembly, meaning the belt could detach in a crash. Six reports, zero injuries. Hyundai estimates roughly 1% of vehicles are actually affected. The recall is a manufacturing-discipline problem, not a design flaw, but it lands during a record sales streak that has pushed Hyundai’s factories to full capacity. The monthly records carry an asterisk when the same plants producing them are recalling 294,000 units for assembly quality.

The Palisade’s Fatal Power-Seat Defect Has Reached the Telluride

Kia is recalling 568 Telluride Hybrid SX Prestige models (2027 model year) for second-row power seats that fail to detect obstructions. The defect is identical to the one that caused a child’s death in an Ohio Hyundai Palisade on March 15, triggering a stop-sale of 68,500 Palisades. Hyundai Motor Group has not yet announced a remedy for the Telluride. The same seat mechanism, the same supplier, the same defect, now spanning two brands and two vehicle platforms.

Nissan’s Leaf Refresh Starts With ‘Park Outside, Don’t Charge’

Nissan issued a recall for certain 2026 Leaf models due to cathode edge damage that increases the risk of a battery short circuit and fire. Owners have been told to park outside and not charge their vehicles until a remedy is available. The fix is not expected until July 2026. Nissan is providing rental vehicles in the interim. A park-outside, do-not-charge directive on a brand-new model year is the worst possible start for the Leaf’s affordable-EV repositioning against BYD’s Seagull and the Kia EV3.

Ford’s Wiper Recall Machine Adds Another 422,000 Trucks

Ford recalled 422,689 vehicles spanning 2021-2023 Navigator, Expedition, F-250, and F-600 Super Duty models for wiper arms that can come loose and fail. The campaign logged 754 reports, 6 accidents, and 2 injuries. It is approximately Ford’s 21st recall campaign of 2026. The pattern documented in BizzyCar’s Q1 report, where Ford accounts for two-thirds of all recalled vehicles, continues unbroken.

Five Automakers Now Charge Monthly for Features You Used to Own

Lucid confirmed plans to charge monthly for ADAS, joining a growing club: Tesla ($99/mo FSD), Rivian ($49/mo Highway Assist+), Ford ($49.99/mo BlueCruise), and GM ($20-40/mo Super Cruise). Five major OEMs now gate driver-assistance features behind subscriptions. The backlash is real. Buyers spending $50,000 or more on a vehicle expect the features to stay on after the check clears.

Detroit’s Big Three Accuse Brussels of Blocking Truck Sales Before the Ink Dries

GM, Ford, and Stellantis, operating through the American Automotive Policy Council, accused the EU of tightening Individual Vehicle Approval rules specifically to block full-size pickup imports. The revised IVA regulations take effect in 2027 and would effectively exclude American-built trucks from European roads. The complaint arrives while the U.S.-EU tariff deal is still awaiting ratification. The accusation: Brussels agreed to cut tariffs on paper while creating regulatory barriers that achieve the same result.

India’s Auto Market Set Its All-Time Record

India’s FY26 total retail volume hit 29.6 million units, an all-time record, with passenger vehicle exports surging 19% to 813,919 units through February. Kia India posted its best-ever March at 29,112 units. Hyundai India recorded its best Q4 ever at 208,275 units. Korean OEMs are the largest beneficiaries of a market that is now the world’s fastest-growing by volume while China’s domestic market contracts for a fifth straight month.

Stellantis Targets 500,000 Italian Vehicles on Hybrid Pivot

Stellantis is targeting 500,000 vehicles from Italian factories in 2026, a 30%-plus increase over 2025. Q1 production rose 9.5% year-over-year. Mirafiori, nearly mothballed two years ago, is driving the rebound with the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Jeep Compass Hybrid. The “Piano Italia” recommitment confirms what the $35 billion EV retreat showed across the industry: hybrid hardware in EV-designed platforms is not recalibration. It is industrial reality.

Mitchell Q1: Bumper Cover Inflation Doubled in One Year

Mitchell’s Q1 2026 collision repair report shows bumper cover inflation jumped from 3.2% in 2024 to 6.7% in 2025, driven by the 25% polyethylene tariff. Repairable claims dropped more than 10%, confirming CCC’s finding that the total-loss rate hit a record 23.1%. Calibration requirements continue to rise. Aluminum, carbon fiber, and mixed-material construction are increasing repair complexity across the fleet. Fewer cars are getting fixed. Every fix costs more.
