The U.S. chart carries annual totals only, so each year shows a single December figure. It opens in 1983 at 171,052 and climbed 43.6 percent to 245,616 in 1984, then to 291,442 in 1985 and a peak of 320,661 in 1986, the best year on record. Sales declined for five straight years from there, to 162,972 by 1991. 1992 and 1993 brought a small recovery to 175,150 and 182,502, before the total fell 28.9 percent to 129,675 in 1994. The final 54,505 sales came in 1995, the year the Tacoma took over.
