Revealed November 10, 2025 | LA Auto Show Debut: November 20 | Deliveries: Q1 2026

Kia revealed the second-generation Telluride ahead of its November 20 LA Auto Show debut, growing the dimensions of a model already on track for another record sales year in 2025. The changes matter because the first-generation Telluride succeeded by matching established players like the Toyota Highlander on space and features while undercutting them on price. Growing larger positions the 2027 model to maintain that formula.

Key Specifications:

  • Size increase: 2.3 inches longer overall (199.2 inches total), wheelbase stretched nearly 3 inches, height up 1 inch
  • Design language: “Opposites United” philosophy combining rugged durability with refined sophistication, featuring vertical LED lighting signatures front and rear
  • Powertrain options (expected): 329-hp hybrid system (turbocharged 2.5L inline-four with electric motors) sharing tech with Hyundai Palisade Hybrid; base 3.5L V6 producing 287 hp
  • Trim range: Multiple levels including X-Pro off-road variant with 9.1 inches ground clearance, all-terrain tires, recovery hooks, and blacked-out trim
  • Interior upgrades: Wraparound dashboard with EV9-inspired controls, column-mounted shifter (replacing console unit), increased headroom, easier third-row access

Strategic Context:

The Telluride succeeded by positioning Kia upmarket without the traditional luxury badge penalty. Sales have climbed every year since the 2020 launch, with the model becoming Kia’s second-best seller behind the Sportage. Adding hybrid powertrains addresses the efficiency gap that has emerged as competitors like Honda and Toyota dominate the hybrid three-row segment, while the X-Pro trim targets the outdoor recreation market that has proven lucrative for brands like Toyota (4Runner TRD) and Ford (Bronco).

The size increase matters because three-row buyers prioritize space over handling dynamics. The Telluride already competed well on interior volume, but more wheelbase translates directly to improved third-row comfort and cargo capacity behind the third row—two areas where the first generation met but didn’t exceed segment standards.

Range Rover Influence:

The exterior design pulls heavily from Land Rover’s Range Rover, particularly the flush taillights and upright proportions. This isn’t accidental. Land Rover’s design language signals luxury and capability simultaneously, which is exactly the positioning Kia wants to reinforce. The first-generation Telluride already borrowed Range Rover’s boxy silhouette; the second generation makes that connection more explicit while maintaining Kia’s vertical LED signatures that have become the model’s visual trademark.

Market Timing:

Launching hybrid options in Q1 2026 positions Kia to capitalize on the October 2025 federal EV tax credit expiration that saw pure EVs collapse while hybrids surged. The Telluride Hybrid should deliver approximately 29 mpg combined with AWD (based on Palisade Hybrid figures), a meaningful improvement over the current V6’s ~22 mpg combined. This efficiency gain matters more now that fuel costs are rising and consumers have demonstrated clear preference for hybrid powertrains over pure battery-electric options.

Full specifications and pricing will be announced at the LA Auto Show on November 20, with production beginning in late 2025 for early 2026 deliveries.
