Our Take On The SUV Sales Numbers
Canada’s thirst for SUVs increased by 7.2% in the calendar year 2017, with over half of those sales coming from the top 20 selling nameplates in the chart below.
The race between the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V was run close right to the end. Just two sales split the pair in the twelfth month of the year, keeping their year-to-date totals within 500 of each other.
In the end, it was the RAV4 that ended 2017 the victor for the second year in a row, with both SUVs topping 50,000 sales for the first time.
The Ford Explorer increased its sales 13.5% on 2016’s end, with the three-row SUV overtaking the Jeep Wrangler to finish twelfth.
Volkswagen’s Tiguan SUV grew its year-end total by more than a third on 2016’s, doubling its sales in 2017’S final month to gain four spots in the overall Canadian SUV countdown for the year.
