The Chevrolet Captiva Sport continues to sell more frequently than the Volkswagen Tiguan. Those two vehicles have very little to do with one another. They’re both small utility vehicles, yes, but one is a high-priced German which sells to consumers, the other a copy of the old Saturn Vue which sells to fleets. Still seems strange though, doesn’t it?
GM’s two consumer-directed small crossovers, the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, combined for 28,588 sales in June 2012. That would just have been enough to pip the Ford Escape… if the GM twins were a GM single. This was the best month ever for the Ford Escape. Honda’s CR-V is still the leader on year-to-date terms, both among small SUVs and crossovers and the whole gamut of SUVs and crossovers.

June 2012 Midsize SUV Sales Chart |
Now with 2173 sales from its Police Interceptor version over the last four months, the Ford Explorer’s lead over the Jeep Grand Cherokee has expanded to 2777 units through six months. The Explorer’s June 2012 midsize victory was 2119-sales strong.
GM’s Lambda platform trio is on the way back, however, as the 2012 clear out takes hold in earnest, in advance of the arrival of the revamped MY2013s. GM sold 24,573 Enclaves, Traverses, and Acadias in June 2012, up 44% from June 2011. Toyota, Honda, and Nissan combined for 24,815 sales of their highest-volume midsize utilities in June: the Highlander, Pilot, and Murano.

June 2012 Large SUV Sales Chart |
Have you already checked out which jumbo-sized large sport-utility vehicle has been surging of late? U.S. Chevrolet Suburban sales jumped 53% in June 2012; the Good 12 winner is up 24% this year. June was the eleventh month in the last year in which Suburban sales were better year-over-year. Of the 22,402 large non-luxury brand SUVs sold in America in June, 23% were Suburbans. Another 49% were Chevrolet Tahoes or Chevy twins from GMC, the Yukon and better-selling Yukon XL.
Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for all these models can be accessed through the first dropdown menu at the top of GCBC’s Sales Stats home or at the top right of this page.
