DS9 Sales Figures

DS9

The DS 9 is a flagship executive sedan manufactured by the French automaker DS Automobiles. It was introduced in 2020 and is currently in its first generation. The DS 9 features a distinctive design with DS’s signature hexagonal grille, extensive chrome detailing, and LED lighting technology. Positioned as the brand’s range-topping model, it competes with established premium sedans like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The DS 9 is a good choice for those looking for a luxurious and distinctive alternative to German executive sedans.

DS9 Overview

The DS 9 is a large executive sedan that was introduced by DS Automobiles in 2020. Built on PSA’s EMP2 platform (shared with the Peugeot 508), the DS 9 measures 4,933 mm in length with a 2,895 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the E-segment. Unlike other DS models, the DS 9 is manufactured exclusively in China at Baoneng Group’s Shenzhen factory, though it’s sold in both Chinese and European markets.

The DS 9 is well-equipped, in line with its premium positioning. It comes with features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, massaging front seats, Focal Electra sound system, and DS’s signature “Clous de Paris” guilloche detailing throughout the interior. The DS 9, as DS’s flagship model, was designed to establish the brand’s credentials in the luxury sedan segment.

The DS 9 is available exclusively with plug-in hybrid E-Tense powertrains. The entry-level version uses a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine producing 180 horsepower combined with an electric motor for a total system output of 225 horsepower. The range-topping model delivers 360 horsepower with all-wheel drive capability, where the petrol engine powers the front wheels and an electric motor drives the rear axle. All versions come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The DS 9 is known for its distinctive French luxury design and comfortable ride. It also features advanced technology including a head-up display, DS Active Scan Suspension (on higher trims), and night vision capability. The DS 9 comes standard with a variety of features including LED matrix headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and extensive sound deadening for a quiet cabin experience.

The DS 9 represents DS Automobiles’ attempt to establish itself as a genuine luxury brand, though sales have been modest in both Europe and China. Production continues as of 2024, though DS withdrew from the Chinese market in 2023 despite the car being built there exclusively.

DS9 Sales Figures

The DS 9 has struggled to gain traction in the competitive executive sedan market, with DS Automobiles’ overall sales remaining modest compared to established German rivals. The challenging market conditions for sedans and limited brand recognition have resulted in the DS 9 being a rare sight on roads outside of France.

Day 198 — Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority published an updated list of 77 vessels it accuses of violating its Strait of Hormuz protocols, saying listed ships face fines, detention or confiscation and warning insurers, P&I clubs and classification societies against serving them (Iran International and Insurance Journal, Sep 14; Middle East Monitor, Sep 15). US Central Command said an IRGC claim that a supertanker struck mines in the strait was false; neither account is independently confirmed.
