It clearly works for BMW in Canada. BMW saw big growth rates in every single years in Canada throughout the 2000s. With sales of 16,598 cars in 20014, the brand grew to a peak of 39,033 units in 2018. Unlike the U.S, the Canadian market saw no slowdown during the financial crisis, with sales growing slightly from 23,244 units in 2008 to 24,724 units in 2009. The growth continue in 2012 through 2018.
The Canadian market has been a bright spot for BMW. While the brand has felt sales pressure in the United States, the brand has seen only one year of sales declines (2008) since 2004. That kind of continued growth has meant that Canada is a strong market for BMW despite its size (compared to larger markets). It remains to be seen whether BMW will feel sales pressure in Canada like is has elsewhere or whether the brand will continue to grow sales volumes.
