The United States and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement on November 19 recognizing U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the Saudi market, eliminating certification barriers that previously required separate testing and approval processes for American automakers.
The agreement removes regulatory obstacles for Ford and General Motors to compete for Saudi fleet contracts and consumer sales without additional compliance costs. Industry analysts estimate the Saudi automotive market represents approximately $5.2 billion in annual opportunity for qualified manufacturers.
