The Acura RSX

The Acura RSX, sold from 2002 through 2006, was Acura’s compact sport coupe and a successor to the long‑running Integra nameplate. Known as the Honda Integra DC5 in other markets, the RSX was designed to deliver a high‑revving performance experience, crisp handling and upscale features at a modest price. Its introduction marked Acura’s shift toward alphanumeric model names and it quickly became a favorite among driving enthusiasts.

Model Overview

Riding on a modified Civic platform, the RSX was available in two trims. The base model used a 2.0‑litre K20A3 inline‑four producing about 160 hp mated to either a five‑speed manual or a five‑speed automatic transmission. The sportier Type S trim featured a 2.0‑litre i‑VTEC engine producing 200 hp (raised to 210 hp for 2005‑2006) and came exclusively with a close‑ratio six‑speed manual and limited‑slip differential. Leather upholstery, a power moonroof and premium Bose audio were among the RSX’s available amenities. Thanks to its lightweight chassis and eager engine, the coupe delivered agile handling and strong performance.

Sales Data & Trends

Annual sales peaked at over 20,000 units in 2005 as the RSX filled Acura’s entry‑level role. However, demand declined as buyers gravitated toward four‑door sedans and crossovers. Production ended after the 2006 model year and Acura later replaced the RSX’s niche with the CSX (Canada) and ILX (North America). Today the RSX remains popular on the used market for its reliability, tuning potential and spirited driving dynamics.

Future Electric RSX

Acura announced in January 2025 that the RSX nameplate will return on an all‑electric coupe SUV slated to launch for the 2026 model year. Built on Honda’s new Zero EV platform and previewed by the Acura Performance EV concept, the upcoming RSX EV will slot beneath the ZDX and be assembled in Marysville, Ohio. The move underscores Acura’s shift toward electrification and will broaden the brand’s crossover lineup.
