Our Take On The Midsize SUVs Sales Numbers

Ford Explorer carries on as the top-seller in the midsize SUV market in the USA, with a 1.9% increase in its sales to last January.

Explorer sales were very strong towards the end of 2017 – the age of the fifth-generation model, introduced back in 2010, doesn’t seem to be having too much of an impact on its sales.

The Toyota Highlander, in third, goes a fifth better than its performance last January, while the Chevrolet Traverse increases its sales year-on-year by 41.5%. Traverse was renewed last year with the 2018 model not introduced until July, meaning the current increase is against sales of the previous model while it was on the way out.

Honda’s three-row SUV crossover, the Pilot, also posts impressive growth this month on last January, with its figures up a steep 61.8% since this time last year.

These are just some standout gains that push back against some drops in sales by other nameplates to put demand for mid-size SUVs 9.8% in the green in January.
