BMW revived the 8 Series name for its luxury grand tourers at the end of 2018, first as a coupe and convertible and then as the four-door Gran Coupe. The current range pairs a 335-horsepower inline-six in the 840i with a 523-horsepower twin-turbo V8 in the M850i xDrive, and BMW marked the 2026 model year with the M850i Edition M Heritage, a Gran Coupe limited to 500 units.

BMW 8-Series Sales in the United States

The BMW 8-Series chart for the United States opens with 223 sales in December 2018 and 4,410 in 2019. December 2019 was the best single month on the chart at 1,066. Sales then peaked at 7,714 in 2020 and 7,763 in 2021, before easing every year to 5,346 in 2024. The 2025 total fell to 4,003, down 25.1 percent, with August’s 257 the low point. The line has firmed since: the first half of 2026 totals 2,273, up 13.3 percent from 2,007 a year earlier, and every month of 2026 so far landed between 355 and 401.

In Canada the 8-Series chart starts with 18 sales in late 2018 and 264 in 2019. The peak came in 2020 at 542, nearly matched by 532 in 2021, and volume then slid each year to 357, 236, 203 and finally 179 in 2025, down 11.8 percent. The first half of 2026 totals 113, up 13.0 percent from 100 a year earlier, and its second quarter, at 84, was the strongest quarter since the second quarter of 2023.
