Audi A7 Overview

The Audi A7 is a luxury five-door liftback (fastback) sedan produced by the German automaker Audi. It was first introduced in 2010 as a sporty and stylish addition to Audi’s lineup, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and practicality. The A7 is known for its sleek design, advanced technology, and engaging driving dynamics, making it an attractive choice for luxury car buyers who desire a combination of elegance and versatility.

The Audi A7 features a distinctive and elegant design, showcasing Audi’s signature design language with a sloping roofline, clean lines, and a sporty appearance. The front end is characterized by Audi’s iconic Singleframe grille, flanked by stylish headlights with available LED or matrix LED technology. The A7’s design emphasizes both luxury and athleticism, making it stand out in the luxury car segment.

The A7’s liftback body style sets it apart from traditional sedans. The rear of the car features a large hatch-style door that provides easy access to the spacious cargo area. This design gives the A7 the practicality and versatility of a hatchback while retaining the elegant and flowing lines of a sedan. The Audi A7 offers a range of engine options, including turbocharged petrol (gasoline) and diesel engines. The engine choices vary depending on the model year and the market. Audi provides different power outputs and performance levels to cater to various customer preferences, with higher-performance variants available under the S and RS badges.

The A6 is available with a choice of four engines: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower, a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower, a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 349 horsepower, and a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine that produces 453 horsepower. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The A6 has a top speed of 130 miles per hour for the base engine, 155 miles per hour for the 3.0-liter engine, and 174 miles per hour for the 4.0-liter engine. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds for the base engine, 5.4 seconds for the 3.0-liter engine, and 4.6 seconds for the 4.0-liter engine.

Audi A7 Sales Data & Trends

The Audi A7 has received praise for its combination of style, performance, and practicality. As a luxury liftback sedan, it offers a unique proposition for customers who desire the elegance of a luxury sedan with the versatility of a hatchback.

Although the Audi A7 fastback rides on the same wheelbase as the midsize Audi A6 sedan, it offers sportier styling and luxury on par with the full-size Audi A8 sedan. Over the years, Audi updated the A7 with new content and revised power. By 2016, the Audi A7 now made 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. At hefty $10,900 to jump from the A6 to the stylish A7 is a tough decision. We’re not sure the added style and cargo space is worth it. Sure the Porsche Panamera is more expensive but it is a more well rounded car with significant performance chops.

The Audi A7 competes in a tough segment, with sedan sales taking a beating in recent years and so has the A7 taken a similar beating. Between amazing offerings like the mighty Porsche Panamera, the move by consumers to SUVs (just look at Q7 growth numbers within Audi itself) and the not insignificant price premium of the A7 versus the really great Audi A6 and we the Audi A7 needs to go back to the drawing board or it will continue to struggle in terms of sales figures.
