Our Take On The Commercial Van Sales Numbers

As the months roll by, Ford’s move away from focusing on passenger cars seems to be proving more and more justified. Last month was a record August for Ford in Canada, with trucks and SUVs providing a surge in the wake of falling passenger car sales. Its vans didn’t do too badly either.

The Ford Transit was one of its most sharply growing brands for the month, with sales up 73.9% on August 2017. Transit Connect sales provided a boost in an otherwise backsliding small and midsize van market, and E-Series sales were up a respectable 27.5% year-on-year.

Falling demand for small vans from Mercedes-Benz and Nissan stalled the small and midsize van segment’s growth last month, though overall the figures to August paint a healthy picture for the Canadian commercial van segment.
