Mitsubishi i MiEV Sales Figures

Mitsubishi i MiEV

Here you will find monthly and yearly Canadian and U.S. sales figures for the Mitsubishi i MiEV. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is an electric car that represented one of the early efforts by a major automaker to produce a mass-market electric vehicle (EV). Based on the Mitsubishi ‘i’ kei car, the i-MiEV was introduced to the Japanese market in 2009 and eventually found its way to other markets around the world.

The i-MiEV featured a 49 kW (66 hp) electric motor and a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup provided a range of approximately 100 miles (160 km) under the Japanese JC08 test cycle, but real-world range, especially in the U.S. EPA tests, was closer to 60-70 miles (96-113 km). When first launched, the i-MiEV was often praised for its zero-emissions credentials and its suitability for city driving. However, as the EV market evolved and competitors introduced cars with longer ranges and more features, the i-MiEV began to seem more limited in comparison.

Versions of the i-MiEV were also sold under different brands due to partnerships Mitsubishi had with other automakers. Notably, the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero were essentially rebadged versions of the i-MiEV for the European market. While it began in Japan, the i-MiEV eventually made its way to European markets, North America, and other parts of Asia. Its specifications and features sometimes varied by region.

Mitsubishi ceased production of the i-MiEV in 2021, marking an end to its run as one of the pioneering mass-market electric vehicles.
