Nissan USA sold more of its NV commercial vans in March 2013 than in any other month in the nameplate’s brief history. This record occurred during the same month in which Nissan began selling its smaller NV200 van.

Together with the NV’s increases and the 47 extra NV200 sales which couldn’t have been present at this time last year, big increases from the Ford Transit Connect and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter have fueled the commercial van category’s 0.8% rise in the first quarter of 2013. The overall new vehicle market rose 6.4% in the first quarter. Pickup truck sales have risen 10.7% so far this year.

The NV200 isn’t the last of a new breed of commercial-oriented vans to arrive in the United States. Ram’s ProMaster isn’t far off, and Ford is revolutionizing their approach with new Transits.
