A rare victory was scored by BMW USA in July 2012 as the 5-Series outsold the Mercedes-Benz E-Class for only the second time in 2012. Not so rare was the BMW 3-Series’ ability to outsell all premium brand vehicles (and dozens of mainstream brand vehicles, as well) including the surging Infiniti G25 and G37. G sales shot up 64%, and 3-Series sales fell 11%, but the 3-Series’ best-selling Japanese rival came up 288 units short.
Successful though the Infiniti G has proven to be in 2012, its M-badged big brother has suffered many months of sales declines. Only in May and June did the M37/M56/M Hybrid sell more frequently than in the equivalent period of 2011. Year-to-date, Infiniti M U.S. sales volume is down 9%. July sales slid 7%. The hefty Cadillac XTS, in only its second month on sale, sold more often than the Infiniti.
