United States Automotive Market: Brand and Corporation Sales Rankings for October YTD 2017
Here you will find the rankings of all the major automotive brands and corporations selling vehicles in the U.S market. Each month we compile the sales data and reports for North American markets and analyze it to create the best selling list below. Note that the data trickles in throughout the day early in the month and we will update you in real time as we get the data.
Ford broke the 2 million vehicles mark in October, but growth for the blue oval has been bumpy over the past few months. Back in July, Ford was 2nd in our monthly table, with Toyota/Scion taking the top spot. For October, Toyota/Scion take third, though are second in the year-to-date rankings.
Still, a 6% year-on-year increase is not to be sniffed at, and Ford will be happy with any boost they get between now and year-end, as the brand remains more than 2% behind 2016’s year-to-date.
GM once again topped the charts in the automaker rankings, with Toyota Motor Corporation dropping to third behind FMC thanks to 6% growth at Ford.
Premium brands generally had a worse month this October than last, with Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley and Lincoln all reporting drops this month. The effect seems to have been felt worse by the Japanese brands Infiniti and Lexus, down by 8.1% and 7.7% respectively.
This wasn’t true for all Premium brands however – Volvo, Genesis, Alfa Romeo, and Audi have all posted significant year-on-year growth, with Mercedes-Benz also reporting a marginal increase on last October.
In fact, Audi’s 9.6% year-on-year increase follows salubrious growth across Volkswagen Group, which is up a neat 10% year-on-year, with the Volkswagen brand posting almost 12% growth.
Meanwhile Elon Musk’s Tesla reported its biggest quarterly losses ever this week, as the company struggles to ramp up production of its Model 3 sedan. What the company describes as “production bottlenecks” meant it only produced 260 of the vehicle in the third quarter of 2017 – a far cry from the company’s target of 1,500. This hold up means it will be the end of first quarter 2018 before production hits the full 5,000 units-per-week – far later than the target of December this year.
