Our Take On The Pickup Truck Sales Numbers

Pickup truck sales in Canada slid 7.5% on last January, with two of the segment’s big hitters taking losses over last year’s sales figures.

The Ford F-Series, sales of which this time last year jumped 5%, saw that increase eroded in January 2018 as it finished up the month with a 16.4% year-on-year drop.

The Ram Pickup, in second place in the countdown, saw similar losses to finish up January 16.8% down on the first month of 2017.

Volume of that pair, plus an 8.9% drop in sales for the GMC Sierra, put the demand for full-size pickups almost 11% down on last January – a gap even an increase of a third in sales of small and midsize pickups couldn’t fill, meaning pickup sales in Canada start 2018 7.5% down on a year ago.
