Pickup sales in the United States grew by almost 5% on January 2017’s sales, with small and midsize pickup trucks fuelling the growth as full-size pickup sales remained equal to last year’s figures.
America’s favourite pickup, the Ford F-Series, leads the way by starting 2018 with its best January sales since 2004.
Strong growth for the Chevrolet Silverado, which takes second place in the countdown balanced out declines for the Ram Pickup in third, with only two other trucks posting year-on-year declines for January.
One of those was the GMC Sierra, a 2019 incarnation of which will be revealed at the beginning of March. Early reports on the new Sierra suggest that GM will focus on better differentiating the Sierra from its relation in this lineup, the Chevrolet Silverado.
Sales of the Nissan pickups surged ahead, with both its Frontier and Titan nameplates posting roughly 50% year-on-year increases on last January’s figures.
