Our Take On The Sporty Car Sales Numbers

Sales of American muscle cars grew by 3% year-on-year, with the Dodge Challenger bolstering the overall total as the only muscle car to improve its sales total on May 2017. Year-to-date, muscle car sales in Canada are behind 2017’s total by a barely-worth-mentioning 0.2%.

There was a steeper uptick in sales of European sports cars last month, with German models leading the charge. Porsche 718 sales were up 6.5% at the top of the table, but propping up the growth curve are the Audi TT (up 65.1%) and Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class (up 40.9%), as sales of rivals from Jaguar and Alfa Romeo slide the other way.

Miscellaneous sporty car sales in Canada saw a leveling off last month as the Audi A5’s prodigious sales streak that kicked off this time last year catches up on itself. A5 sales still increased by a modest 7.2%, but the majority of the rest of the segment reported steep drops in sales last month, leaving the segment down by 10.5% for May.
