Our Take On The Sporty Cars Sales Numbers

In the month that Ford celebrated the 10 millionth Mustang rolling off its production line in Michigan, the blue oval’s pony car enjoyed a fruitful month of sales. August saw 35.3% more Mustangs being sold than the same month a year ago, and the Mustang now sits within a percent of its year-to-date total for the first two-thirds of 2017.

Porsche said at month-end that its year-on-year drop in sales for the month of August was down to a near sell-out of the last-generation Cayenne ahead of the new model’s arrival next month. But August saw sales of its sports cars fall too – 911 sales were down 12.9% year-on-year, while 718 sales fell by 38%.
