Small SUV sales were down for the month of April in Canada. The segment saw a drop in sales of roughly 5,800 units for the month. The segment was down YTD by about 15,800 units.
With that said, the top four highest-selling models in the segment all saw sales increases. They were the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and the Subaru Forester. There were other models that saw sales increases, too. Models with notable sales percentage increases include Jeep Compass, VW Tiguan, and Hyundai Kona.
Despite the sales increases from these models and others, the segment was still down. More models saw sales decreases than increases.
The story is similar when you look just at the Subcompact SUV models for the month. That sub-segment was down roughly 2,700 units for the month of April. However, Subcompact SUV sales were up roughly 6,000 units for the year so far. This would suggest things might turn around in future months.
Important note: Ford, GM and FCA have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Ram until the end of each quarter.
