Our Take On The Small SUVs Sales Numbers
Overall sales of small and subcompact SUVs and crossovers are up 9.4% compared with the first two months of 2017, with the sharpest growth in the subcompact end of the market.
The Toyota C-HR, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross join the Ford Eco Sport in the ever-growing subcompact SUV and crossover arena, with the Ford and Toyota so far managing to make a meaningful contribution to overall sales in this portion of the market.
Between them, the C-HR and Eco Sport have contributed over 11,000 sales to the bottom line of this sub-segment so far this year, and sales of subcompact SUVs and crossovers currently sit almost 25% up on where they stood a year ago year-to-date.
The bulk of this market is small SUVs and crossovers though, meaning the 9.1% growth evens out the growth figure to the 9.4% overall mentioned earlier.
The Nissan Rogue leads the way, with a fifth more units sold than in the first two months of 2017. Toyota’s RAV4 takes second year-to-date, with commendable 16.5% growth on 2017 year-to-date, and Chevrolet’s Equinox with sales up by over a quarter on this point last year.
