Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Sales of small and midsize luxury SUV was behind the pace of growth for the SUV market as a whole in Canada, though sales were still 10.3% up on last January overall.
In the sub-segments below, both compact luxury SUVs and Midsize luxury SUVs actually saw drops in volume compared with last year – compact is down 9.6% while demand for midsize luxury SUVs is down 3%.
While sales of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 were significantly up in January, their gains are sandwiched between the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Infiniti QX30, both of which saw sales fall by a significant proportion.
The main growth engine below is the market for subcompact luxury SUVs. The Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and Volvo XC60 all saw phenomenal growth, which helped drive this portion of the market to 34.5% growth overall.
