Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Audi’s Q5 once again reigns supreme in compact luxury SUV sales in Canada, as well as being the best-selling small luxury SUV in 2017 in the Canadian market.
This marks three years in a row that an Audi product has topped the small to midsize luxury SUV standings in Canada, and, as the Q5’s strongest year in Canada yet, a resounding endorsement for the second-generation of the SUV.
In the subcompact luxury SUV sales race, the BMW X1 topped the charts, with 17.6% growth on 2016’s sales putting it head and shoulders above its direct competition, and lifting the subcompact sub-segment to 7.4% growth overall, despite declines from the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Audi Q3.
Midsize-wise, it was the Lexus RX that Canadians selected as their favourite luxury SUV, once again taking second place to the Audi Q5 overall.
All the sub-segments detailed below grew over 2016’s totals. Subcompact luxury SUVs by 7.4%, midsize luxury SUVs by 4.7%, and small luxury SUVs outstripping both with a staggering 20.1% growth over its total for 2016.
