Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury Car Sales Numbers

One glance at the Midsize Luxury Car Sales in Canada table and it’s clear that Cadillac’s 1% year-on-year increase in sales in Canada has very little to do with its sedans. No, the bulk of the growth at Cadillac in Canada is down to sales of its – you guessed it – luxury crossover, the XT5.

There is a glimmer of hope for the brand’s sedans in this segment – the CT6, Caddy’s tech-heavy foray into the autonomous driving arms race, showed strong growth this month on last September.

It was a good month for European brands in the Midsize Luxury segment – Audi, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz’s offerings in all saw considerable year-on-year growth in the Canadian market, while rivals from Lexus and Infiniti sold fewer.

For the Small Luxury Cars segment, sales year-to-date of the BMW 3- and 4-Series combined edge out the Mercedes-Benz C-Class by 300 units. The CLA-Class jumps forward with 46% growth this month, though it still sits with a defecit of nearly 300 cars to break even in YTD terms on last year.
