Here you will find the Compact Car sales leaders in Canada for May 2018. Each month we compile the Compact Car sales data and reports for North American markets and analyze it to create the best selling list below.
Despite large fluctuations in some of the sub-segments below, small car sales in Canada declined just under 4% year-on-year in May – slower than the overall passenger car segment, with sales down 7.65% across the board last month.
The steepest declines were seen in the relatively low-impact warm hatch segment – sales of these vehicles were down 42.5% year-on-year.
Even the Chevrolet Spark got in on the brand’s best May since 2007; sales of the tiny Spark shot up almost fivefold year-on-year, making it the dominant nameplate in the city car triumvirate for the month and catapulting it – and the segment – into the green year-to-date.
The most voluminous small car segment was less healthy at the end of May – while the segment-topping Honda Civic increased sales 4.2%, overall sales fell by 11.7% – faster than the overall passenger car market decline – with severe drops for fairly big-volume players like the Hyundai Elantra, Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Golf seeing drops last month.
