Here you will find the Compact Car sales leaders in Canada for June 2018. Each month we compile the Compact Car sales data and reports for North American markets and analyze it to create the best selling list below.
Small car sales in Canada suffered over the first half of 2018, with the threat of higher tariffs knocking consumer confidence, and leaving all but one box in the compact car chart in the red.
The Volkswagen Golf is the only compact hatchback to have performed better over the past six months than it did over 2017’s first half, with the compact segment down 11.1% year-to-date heading into Q3 – marking a significantly steeper decline than the passenger car segment as a whole over Q1 and Q2.
The subcompact cars below fared slightly better, with a decent uptick in the midfield from the Yaris, Rio and Fit boosting the segment’s overall numbers as a steep decline for the Hyundai Accent – the year so far’s biggest seller in the subcompact segment – brought the overall total sales of these vehicles down.
The Chevrolet Spark’s resurgence since its 2019 model year facelift has propelled it, and the city car market, forward. Four-figure percentage growth for June’s sales makes it last month’s top seller out of the trio, with the Nissan Micra struggling to live up to last year’s performance.
Tall hatches meanwhile continue to thrive, with the Nissan Qashqai now clearly ahead of the Subaru Crosstrek. Mazda’s CX-3 holds on to third place for 2018’s first half, while the Honda HR-V now sits significantly behind last year’s figures in what was otherwise a record-breaking month for Honda in Canada.
