Six months in to 2018, and the small car market in the USA is behind its 2017 sales total to this point by 12.5%.
As crossovers and small SUVs continue to pinch sales from this segment amidst a period of high consumer confidence, not one sub-sector of small cars has seen sales grow over the first two quarters.
GM’s small car models, reporting figures for the quarter as a whole and included in our sales chart for the first time since March, have experienced mixed fortunes on the whole. Year-to-date, the Chevrolet Spark is up by 7.7% in the city cars chart, while the beleagured Sonic sits bottom of the subcompact sales chart for the year so far, as sales have been slashed by 41.2%, with a new model apparently slated to arrive for 2019.
