Best Selling Compact Cars in Canada for January 2018
Here you will find the Compact Car sales leaders in Canada for January 2018. Each month we compile the Compact Car sales data and reports for North American markets and analyze it to create the best selling list below.
Who says that small cars aren’t cool? The Canadian small cars market grew by 16% on last January, with the majority of the gains coming from the tall hatches category.
This growth comes on the back of a slide in sales this time last year, but for the nameplates below, it’s a welcome respite from conditions a year ago.
Tall hatches sees the addition of the Ford Eco Sport this month – a Fiesta-on-stilts-style compact crossover, this generation Eco Sport has been on sale globally since 2013 but is only now entering the North American market, contributing 115 figures to the overall total for the sub-segment.
Another recent addition to the tall hatch market in Canada, the Nissan Qashqai, is already top of the leaderboard and also helps add to the bottom line for 2018’s first month. The Subaru Crosstrek, second behind the Nissan, contributes 651 sales more this January than last.
Sales of warm hatches have almost halved in the past year, with the Scion tC disappearing entirely and the Hyundai Veloster not far behind it. With the ageing Fiat 500 having last month sold a tenth of its sales last January, warm hatches was a two-horse race between the Volkswagen Beetle and the Mini Cooper (though their sales volumes can hardly be called close either).
City cars and subcompact cars remained fairly flat year-on-year, with both posting minor drops to last January’s figures. The subcompact sub-segment was saved by the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, which filled the hole left by the drop in sales of the Hyundai Accent.
