Our Take On The Compact Car Sales Numbers
Sales of small cars in Canada are up 7.2% year-to-date, with an influx of new models in the tall hatch sub-segment providing a welcome lift in sales that easily balanced out the decline in warm hatch sales.
Warm hatch sales are currently at around half what they were this time last year, while newly-arrived tall hatches and crossover the Ford EcoSport, Nissan Qashqai and Toyota C-HR are responsible for 6.6% of all small car sales in Canada this year to date.
Canada’s favourite passenger car is still the Honda Civic, though February saw its sales slip just behind this point in 2017 after a year-on-year decrease in Civic sales of 5.3%.
The Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Golf both bucked the trend for SUV and Crossover demand, with both posting significant year-on-year increases in February.
