Our Take On The Small Cars Sales Numbers

Demand for small cars among US consumers fell 6.6% year-on-year in November, with only one sub-section of this corner of the market managing growth.

City Car sales increased an impressive 44.2% over last November, as the Chevrolet Spark reinvigorates the segment after some difficult months. Chevrolet sold more Sparks last month than the entire sales of City Cars last November.>

The Warm Hatches segment in particular is feeling the strain and is down 49%, as ageing models in the form of the Fiat 500 and Hyundai Veloster take their toll on sales.

The Honda Civic had a good month, and sits almost 12,000 sales adrift of its next rival, last year’s segment leader the Toyota Corolla. The Civic saw sharp increases over last year’s figures and continues to increase its lead over itself from last year.

The Nissan Versa’s competition in the Subcompact sector is dropping away, as the Hyundai Accent switches to a new model for 2018.
