Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Inventory shortages hampered sales of some Mercedes-Benz vehicles through September, with the GLA-Class’ 50.4% year-on-year drop having a marked effect on the overall sales total for subcompact luxury SUVs.
GLE sales were on the up however, with Merc’s midsize challenger being one of very few midsize luxury SUV nameplates to go green for the month.
Year-to-date, all the segments below are ahead of 2017 at the three-quarter-way mark for 2018, though midsize premium SUVs are only ahead by 0.25% year-to-date.
Volvo’s XC90’s 22.1% uptick through the first nine months of the year have helped the midsize section hold on to its composure, as does the Range Rover Velar’s fairly consistent contributions to the segment’s totals since around March.
