Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Subcompact luxury SUV sales benefited in the first half of 2018 from the addition of the BMW X2 and Volvo XC40 to the lineup. High margins are available in this segment, with demand strong enough to support the new arrivals alongside the established marques – meaning an overall gain of 15.2% over the first half of the year.
The only subcompact luxury SUV to see sales fall over the last six months is the Infiniti QX30, with sales of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class-based crossover down sharply in what was otherwise an all-time record month for the brand in Canada.
To that tune, Infiniti models in the small and midsize luxury SUV sales charts fared much better; the QX50 more than doubled its sales performance year-on-year, while the QX60 in the midsize category had its best month of sales ever in Canada.
Both models are behind year-to-date after six months, but if the growth seen in June carries over into the second half of the year, there’s a chance each could make up that ground.
